Being sick sucks! ⇒

Remember that illness I had at the end of the Inca Trail that started as a hangover? Well I have only just got rid of it!! I thought I had things under control as we entered the jungle, but apparently I celebrated (with a Pisco Sour, a beer and a full dinner) a little too early! The next morning (in fact starting at about midnight) I felt awful, and the symptoms continued until late last night. This morning was the first symptom free day...whew!

Regardless, we had an excellent time in...

Don't ask me what this is. It was on a menu in a Mexican restaurant. I didn't dare try it.

Posado Amazonas was our jungle lodge and it was absolutely fantastic.Check it out!

After we were picked up at the airport in Puerto Maldonado, we drove for about half an hour to the river then took a long motorized canoe along the Tambopata river to the lodge. En route we were given snacks (granadillas and tiny bananas) and a boxed lunch which was delicious fried rice neatly packaged in a banana...

The Porters ⇒

Just a brief mention about the porters on the Inca Trail. These guys are amazing!! They carry everything! Huge propance gas tanks, table, chairs, 4 (!!) days worth of food, our bags, tents, and even people! All for 60 soles, which is about $30!! And they do it fast. They are the last to leave the camp and the first to arrive. On the down hill sections they actually run ... I have no idea how they do it in sandals and not fall.

When we arrived in Aguas Callientes we all wanted to go to...

Back from the Amazon! Just getting there was more of an adventure than the actual jungle itself!

We were supposed to go to the jungle on September 28th but GAP tours failed to deliver our tickets so we had to wait until the 29th (I think I mentioned this before) So the tickets were supposed to arrive at our hotel on the 29th at 8:30. In Peru you are supposed to check in two hours prior to departure so having the tickets arrive at our hotel at 8:30 when our flight was at 10:30 was...
