Doris Tours and Air Trevor ⇒
Back from the Amazon! Just getting there was more of an adventure than the actual jungle itself!
We were supposed to go to the jungle on September 28th but GAP tours failed to deliver our tickets so we had to wait until the 29th (I think I mentioned this before) So the tickets were supposed to arrive at our hotel on the 29th at 8:30. In Peru you are supposed to check in two hours prior to departure so having the tickets arrive at our hotel at 8:30 when our flight was at 10:30 was already a bit of a stretch. So we're in the lobby at 8:30 and guess what...no tickets. Doris at the hotel tried her best to help us reach someone from GAP but no luck. Finally at 9:30 we reached someone who told us to go to the airport and find Trevor who will have our tickets for us. We found Trevor who said "dos momentos" and buggered off somewhere to get the tickets. Finally he gets them and hands them over to Doris at the Tans Peru desk who looks at them and discovers Erin's ticket didn't have his name on it so she of course had to phone Trevor at some office to find out if we were ligit. Meanwhile the Trevor from the tour company was hangin around looking somewhat concerned in his "the-lights-are on-but-nobody's-home way" telling us "no problemo". At 10:10 we were finally given our boarding passes, went to pay the Soles 12.10 airport tax and went through security feeling somewhat stressed.
So we board the Tans Peru flight and notice Doris the flight attendant witha very grim expression on her face ignoring the two flight attendant lights on. On take off (which was extremely turbulant with a couple of sharp turns over the mountains) one passenger's oxygen masks fell down. All I can imagine is what Trevor is maintaining this plane. I was petrified!! Eventually Doris got someone to squish the oxygen masks back into their container (again that same vacant expression and "no problemo") I was soooooo glad to get to Puerto Maldonado I almost kissed the ground! I don't really enjoy flying at the best of times. I think I cut off the circulation in Erin's arm.
At the airport, I see the people holding up the Posado Amazonas sign so I went over there to tell them we've arrived and they don't have our names on their list (of course). I showed them our vouchers which say the 28th of September and the girl goes "oh yes, we were expecting you yesterday" A-ha!! Then we met our guide Richard who said "no problemo" and took care of us for the next 4 days. Go Rainforest Expeditions!!
