Sisters ⇒

I have three wonderful sisters.

Karen is 3 years older than me and one of my very best friends. We have called each other Suzy for as long as I can remember because when we played house (which was probably every day) we were both named Suzy. We talked in a very high pitched voice. It most likely drove our Mum around the bend but she never told us to stop. We rode imaginary horses to the store, played shop with our school supplies and had epic two day games of Monopoly that I always let her win (I suck at Monopoly for some reason).

Andrea is 4 years younger than me and one of my very best friends. Quiet and passive, she possesses the same sort of sense of humour as me but because she is quiet (much unlike myself) her humourous comments sneak up on you which makes them doubly funny. When something makes me laugh, it is Andrea I want to phone to share the joke with. We often quote movies to one another when we leave messages to her and our voices sound so similar on the phone that when we call each other we say "This is your conscience calling."

Jackie is 8 years younger and one of my very best friends. She is as strong willed as they come. You don't want to cross her but she'd lay down in traffic to take up your cause if you've been wronged by anyone. She has a flair for the dramatic and is endlessly entertaining. Funny does not begin to describe her.

I feel fortunate that with an 11 year spread between us I have a wonderful and unique relationship with each of my sisters and they with one another.

My sisters are the reason that when I became pregnant with Daniella when Elise was only 10 months old, I wanted a girl more than anything. I was afraid to want a girl as much as I did, but I wanted Elise to know a sister relationship like I have.

Now, my wish is coming true. I am witnessing a sister relationship in the making right before my eyes and as they play and laugh at each other's silly antics, I am reminded of my wonderful childhood. I do and buy things for them that my sisters and I would have loved when we were little girls. I can't wait to buy school supplies!

Girls, my wish for you is that you will be friends but I know that may not happen. I just hope you love one another as sisters and have one another so you will never be alone.

You are never alone if you have a sister.
