How to get a job, Erin-style ⇒

August 28th, 2009 by

On the eve of finalizing a job offer, I was reflecting on how I got each job I've had:

  1. Riptide Technology (can't find it anymore). In via the paper. Lasted a few months. Corporate shake-out.
  2. Orbital Technology. In through a friend. Lasted 5 years. Corporate shake-out.
  3. Epic Data. In via monster.ca. Lasted 5 years. Loved it. Left voluntarily.
  4. Metasoft. In via a recruiter. Lasted a few months. Mistake. Left voluntarily.
  5. ACL. In via a friend. Lasted one year. Position and product changed. Left voluntarily.
  6. The Level. In via T-NET. Dream job. Loved the role and the people. Lasted 3 months. Corporate shake-out.
  7. Contracts:
  • CSRS. In via friend. Ongoing.
  • PARC. In via friend. Lasted a few months. Business slow-down
  • Agami Creative. In via forum post. Last a few months. Business slow-down.
  • Adnet. In via friend. Lasted a few months. Lack of success.
  • Drive Enforcer. In via Craigslist. Ongoing.
  1. New job (details forthcoming). In via networking event.

Look at that list, it would appear that the best way to get a job is via a friend or acquaintance.
