Reducing Our Carbon Footprint ⇒

August 4th, 2009 by

We've been making a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprint over the last year or so. Here is what we are doing:

Erin bought a non-motorized lawn mower. It's slower but does a nice job on the lawn.

I bought a clothesline which besides saving energy and money, I love how our clothes smell when they've been dried outside. Hello clean sheet day!

We are no longer eating beef. Apparently raising livestock is a huge contributor to green house gases. I don't know if we can become fully vegetarian but I am moving our menu in that direction. it is also better for our health

We are renovating our house in the greenest way we can afford thanks to help from our Interior Designer friend Margo who lets us know about environmentally friendly options for our planned renos. We are looking into sustainable wood for our flooring, we've done our windows, we decided against buying an air conditioner.

I am making good use our bike trailer to take the girls to their activities this summer.

When I do drive I am thinking about driving cleaner: no jack rabbiting, no speeding, no idling.

I am well in the habit of using my cloth grocery bags.

I am slowly switching to glass storage containers instead of plastic.

Anyone got any other ideas??
