Catch Me If You Can ⇒
Time to catch up on some recent movie reviews. First Catch Me If You Can, then X2.
Having missed it in the theatres, we rented Catch Me If You Can from our local neighbourhood DVD store (conveniently located on the ground floor of our building!). It is a two disc set with the all the extras on the second disc. This movie is based on the real life, Frank Abignale Jr., a teenage con artist. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the movie basically tells the story of young Frank from his first scam through his last scam (I will try not to give too much away). Frank is played by DiCaprio and his nemisis, the cop, is Tom Hanks. The supporting cast is equally strong and included Christopher Walken as Frank's dad and Martin Sheen as Frank's father-in-law.
The scams that he pulls get more and more outrageous, growing to match his confidence. I found myself saying, "No one would get away with that", but then I remember that this is based on a real story! I thought all the characters were believable and the story easy to follow. I am sure they left out many of his exploits, but what they left in was exciting. It was easy to see how he succeeded; he was not only very smooth and charming but also a very good read of people. I would hate to play poker against him!
Well worth the price of the rental!
