It's a Segway! On Friday I got the chance to see and ride a Segway! For those that don't know, the Segway is a personal transportation device, kinda like a scooter. But instead of the wheels being in-line, they are beside each other, like the front axle of a car. It has 5 gyroscopes, so that it can balance when you stand on it. To move forward, you just lean forward. To back, lean back. Your left hand controls the turning. It can go up to 20km/h!! The one I rode was electronically limited to 7.5km/h, but it sure seemed faster than that. It only takes a few minutes to get comfortable on it and be whizzing around the office! Sure turns fast; you have to remember to lean into the turns or else you will fall right off of it.

One of our sales guys is trying to put together a deal that involves Segways so the rep came up to see him. I don't see a lot of use for this for the average person, but it definately makes sense for several jobs, like postman or on a large factory floor. If you want to buy one, why don't you head to Amazon? They are coming out with a smaller (15 inch wheels instead of 19 inch) and cheaper model in the next couple of months.
