How a “simple” renovation project snowballs. ⇒

I wanted new bedding. We'd had ours for about 4 years so it was time and I was justified in spending about $200 on a new duvet cover and coordinating sheet set. I searched and found a lovely blue set at Home Outfitters. So then, as you might expect, we painted our bedroom walls. I chose a lovely shade of blue that matched the stripes in the sheets. Dad gets a great deal on paint from his musical theatre supplier so we forked out the $75 for 3 gallons of paint (2 in the main colour, one in the accent wall colour) My dad came out and painted and it looks great but...then, as you might expect, the 1980s wood-coloured doors and trim look hideous and are not a material that can be painted so we have to buy new ones. Trim and doors will likely be another $300 for our bedroom (bedroom door, bathroom, bi-fold closet and 100 ft of trim). So then, as you might expect, we will have to replace all the doors to the bedrooms, bathroom and hall closet so they all match.
