Cuteness Abound - Elise age 3 years 5 months ⇒

A day in the life of my preschooler.

She starts her day at around 7 o'clock by climbing into bed with me and getting as close to me as possible and usually goes back to sleep.

At 8 o'clock or 8:30 she comes out to the living room and starts talking. She doesn't stop talking until she goes to sleep between 8 and 9. I love in the morning that little sleepy voice, hair all askew and her big eyes full of hope and adventure for a new day. I envy that look in her eyes and try to feel the same way she does.

Her language is superb although she still has some cute mispronunciations. Bathing Suits are still Babing Suits for example. For me now, more of the humour comes from the things she actually says. The things she talks about are as varied as can be. One thing I've noticed is that she often says "yeah" between thoughts. "In the morning the sun comes up. Yeah. And it's daytime. And then at night the sun goes down and the moon comes up." "I have bones in my body. Yeah. The milk goes down my froat and into my tummy and into my legs. Yeah. And that makes my bones reawy reawy strong! Feel my finger. See? It's reawy reawy hard. Yeah. That's because it has bones. But my tummy doesn't. See it's soft. You have bones too." These are the thoughts of my preschooler.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays she goes to preschool at the Rec Centre. Her teacher is Colleen and the assistant in Paula. She seems to like preschool and often talks about her friends there. She has learned to spell her name (though I must confess I don't know if it was us or preschool that taught it to her.) and she can even kind of print her name except the S. She can identify all her letters and can count to 20. More importantly, she manages much better with crowds of kids.

She is completely into dressing up right now which I love. My mum made her some cute dress up clothes for Christmas and she pretty much puts something on every day. She gravitates to dress up clothes at other people's houses too. She likes Daniella to dress up as well but she tends not to like to yet which is a bit of a funny source of conflict as sometimes Daniella comes running out of the playroom with Elise crying after her because she wants D to put a princess skirt on.

She loves to put things in baskets and boxes. Anytime I find a random box or small basket around that doesn't have another use, I throw it in the playroom. The other day we received a set of 4 candles for our house warming and, let me tell you, it makes an excellent house with windows for the miniature My Little Ponies we have. That went over very well! I can watch for quite a while as she puts the small creatures we have into the boxes to go to bed or whatever. It's fascinating.

She also loves to play with dolls but that seems to be getting them dressed and changing their diapers. She hasn't gotten into having tea parties with them or anything.

At the moment she doesn't particularly like going outside for walks or to play with bothers me a little as I love going outside. It takes FOREVER to leave the house after I've convinced her to go out as well with all the arguments about her doing things herself or me choosing the wrong jacket or shoes so we don't go outside as much as I would prefer. To stay sane as a stay at home mom and being a person who doesn't do well with confrontation, I really have to pick my battles. I am hoping it is just because of the cold and we will spend the summer outside in our new backyard.

For all her quirks I can't complain about this age too much. With exception of a normal amount of melting down when tired or just done, she is pretty easy to get along with. She has an even temperament, socializes well especially with quieter children, is very bright and makes excellent company. I loved her twos. I love her threes. So far, so good.
