Christine and I have a new addiction, Flip That House and Property Ladder. I have watched about 4 episodes each over this past weekend...very addicting.

I have come to some conclusions about how to be successful at "the flip":

understand the area and what the house should sell for
permits, permits, permits
do it all yourself
re-use what you can
spend money where it counts
kitchens, bathrooms and the master-bedrooms sell houses
landscaping is important...and cheap
if you must get a contractor, watch over them like a hawk and be very specific in your instructions
make the decoration fit the style of the neighbourhood and house
don't over reno...this isn't your dream house after all
under price to sell quick

All the people who run into problems break one or more of those.

I can see why people want to do flipping...seems fun!
