Pregnancy Update #1 -13 weeks ⇒
So our regular blog readers should have figured out by now that we are expecting another fiend (oops, I mean blessed child). The due date is April 1. The pregnancy is all around a bit of a cosmic joke on us, I mean, just check out the due date. C'mon! This is a classic case of "If you want to hear God laugh, make a plan." We wanted our children (if we decided to have more than one) to be three years apart. They will be 19 months.
They say every pregnancy is different. I'll say! For example:
It took us over a year of actual trying to conceive Elise. It took us exactly one month of trying NOT TO to conceive Curve Ball. Before Elise I was pretty bad at taking my pills at the same time every day. In fact, I often had to take two the next day, and nothing ever happened. This time I was really trying to be careful and heed the warnings on the box and ...well... you know the story. I knew the exact answer to the question "when was your last period" when I got pregnant with Elise but this time I was like "well...my sister got married on July 9, I had stopped nursing about 10 days before that because I finally got my first period about 2 days before that so I think it was...." Our first pregnancy test with Elise showed a very faint line so we weren't even sure I was pregnant at first but this time the bright blue plus sign appeared even before I had finished peeing. Last time I was so ecstatic about the pregnancy I couldn't wait to buy maternity clothes (but I did) but this time I was bummed at having to take back a beautiful skirt I had purchased two days prior at Plum. Last time my reaction was "Hooray! At last!" This time it was "You've got to be kidding me!"
I am now 13 weeks pregnant. Through the first trimester and feeling better already. I have't had much nausea - just enough to know things are going ok. I gag a lot though. I already have quite an impressive pot belly which is depressing because I know the baby isn't up there yet so it's just my abs going "too...weak...can't...hold...on". How sad. I am already wearing maternity pants. I have a midwife apopintment on Monday and should be able to hear the heartbeat which is always the highlight of every visit for me.
