We arrived! ⇒
I am writing this from an Internet cafe in Lima, so obviously we arrived! Our trip started at 4:15AM yesterday when we got up and headed to the airport. Word of caution, if you have a flight at 6:30AM, don't arrive at the airport at 5:30!! Turns out there are a lot of Alaska flights at that time and the check-in line is very long! Thankfully as we were on a flight that was leaving soon we got to go the front of the line.
We had a 5 hour layover in LA and we were supposed to meet a friend of ours. Unfortunately, she got food poisoning the night before! Poor Cady! This the the second time we have been in LA and she has been sick; maybe we should take the hint, eh? We are going to try to hook up with her on our way back. We told her not to eat anything for 24 hours before she sees us.
Fortunately, we had an excellent backup plan (developed at the info booth!); lunch in Santa Monica! I didn't know that Santa Monica was so close to LAX; one quick Big Blue Bus ride later and we were on the ocean. We didn't get much time there, but it was nice to get out of the airport.
Our flight down to Lima was long, but uneventful. I watched many movies (Matrix Reloaded, which I didn't like and someone will have to explain to me, and Bruce Almighty, which was funny). LanChile is an excellent airline to fly with; the plane was large and the staff were friendly. We arrived on time just after midnight and then encountered the world«s slowest immigration officer. We were literally the last people out of the immigration room! Thankfully we had no problems getting through and arranging a taxi to our hotel room.
Our hotel is simple and clean; a good start. We managed to get some break and we are now wandering around Lima. Today will be a quiet day; I think we will try to get to one museum and then just hang out in our room until we meet our group at 6!
Next update later in the week.
Adios!
