Gotta love airmiles! ⇒
Iam actually almost done my whirlwind tour of the southwest. My trip down was quite the adventure. Problem: be in San Antonio Thursday morning. Solution: overnight (hah!) in Phoenix!! Normally this wouldn't be a problem as you can fly from Vancouver to Houston and then to San Antonio. But, those flight only leave Vancouver in the morning and I was on a course until Wednesday at 4:30PM. So, I took an Alaskan flight from Vancouver to Seattle to Phoenix. When I landed, it was a 109 degress farenheit out!!! Holy beshnarking!! How do people live here? Anyway, I get into my hotel room at midnight. And my flight out to San Antonio is at 6AM, so I have to be out of the hotel by 4:30AM! Yuck! I get into the room, quickly get my last minute email (changes to my presentation) then to bed.
I flew Southwest to San Antonio. They have a unique seating process. It is general admission! First come, first served!! I was lucky in that I ended up sitting in a chair close to the boarding gate so I got on the plane and my choice of seats. I also got lucky in that there was no one else in my row so I could stretch out and have a little nap. Arrived on time and went to get my rental car. Note: don't ever rent from Thrifty...their shuttles are always the last to come by their car lot is always far away from the airport.
Got a little confused getting to the office, but straightened it out in the end (the exit I wanted is only accessible from the east, not the west...d'oh!). Completed the training by 4:30PM and then went back to hotel. Our hotel is right on the River Walk. The River Walk is a man-made canal that has many nice restaurants and shops. We had some decent Mexican food and then I went to bed.
I had planned on spending today walking around the River Walk, but I decided to spend it in the office as it is too hot to just walk around. I know, I know, what a wuss. But man, is it hot here!! Very, very humid...and I don't deal well with humidity. It is hotter here than Africa, for cryin' out loud!
On the way back, for the first time ever, I am flying first/business class. For some reason the price for an economy seat was the same price as the first class seat (maybe because I only booked it a week in advance!!) so the travel agent put up there with all the pretty people!! Woo hoo!!
Oh ya, I forgot to mention that when I was in the Vancouver airport I ran into some friends that I hadn't seen in over two years! They had spent that time travelling around Asia playing ultimate. And now they have decided to move to New Zealand for a while! Good thing I saw them or I might never have seen them again. Now we have a place to stay when we go to New Zealand!
