Pleasant weekend ⇒
What a great weekend I just had. Friday night we did nothing. I had a long, tiring day at work and didn't feel like doing anything. Saturday, our band, 3rd Stage, played a gig at Surrey Place Mall. It was our first gig in a couple of years, so it was nice to get out play in front of people. We played alright, not great, but not bad. My reed was not co-operating at all as it kept drying out and some notes didn't come out properly, but I played alright.
In the evening we had invitations to three parties, one birthday party and two summer solstice parties. But it felt like Christine and I hadn't spent any time together at all, so we decided just to lay low and hang out. But I still felt like getting out, so we went to see a movie, which I review later.
We mus have been tired because on Sunday we slept in till about 11AM! Haven't done that in a long time!! Then it was off to the Bay to buy a wedding gift for Cal & Jorce (pronounced Joss), whose wedding is next Monday. Before The Bay, we went to [A&B Sound][176] to grab a CD for Christine's sister. As usual, I couldn't get out of there without buying some CDs. Grabbed Live's latest, blah, Radiohead's latest, Hail To The Thief and a spur of the moment pick, who's name escapes me at the moment.
After that we hooked up with Barney and went to listen to some jazz down in Gastown. We caught the end of Primal Orbit, then all of Terry Hanck and most of Carol Welsman. We didn't like Primal Orbit that much...modern jazz. Sounds like a lot of noise to me. Terry Hanck played simple, straight-ahead music. Some blues, some ballads, some rock...very enjoyable. Caroll Welsman is an excellent vocalist who played some great jazz compositions.
Unfortunately we couldn't stay too long as Christine & I were really hungry. I was craving Japanese, so we went to Horai ya (or something like that) on 4th Ave. for some quick Japanese. I had some sushi while Christine had beef teriayki. Mmmmmmm....sushi.
To end the evening we watched Almost Famous on TV, did the crossword and went to bad.
Now that is what I call a great weekend!
