Jet lag sucks! ⇒
My flight went well; took off on time and landed early! I tried to get upgraded (using the hints from my good friend John Carley), but the plane was full, so I was stuck back in baggage class. British Airways is a nice airline to fly....free booze! I had two bottles (little wee ones) with my dinner. Thought they would help me sleep. They did. Before napping however, I watched About Schmidt. I will review it later, but it was a good movie. After the movie I managed to sleep for a few hours so that when I woke there was only a few hours left in the flight!
Breezed through customs and grabbed my bag and met the guy who was going to drive me to Newbury. My hotel is alright, although there are only a few TV stations (gotta love crappy British TV!!). It is right in town so it is easy to walk around. Newbury is a typical small English town. Nothing to do, but lots of pubs. I got to Newbury about 3:30, checked-in and then went for a small walk to get some fresh air. Had a small dinner as my stomach was a little confused. Went to bed early. Unfortunately I was up 3AM...stupid jet lag. I did manage to get back to sleep thankfully.
Today, I had a typical English breakfast...fried eggs, toast and tomatoes. I eschewed the beans and ham as I wanted to give my stomach time to adjust. As I have been to London 2 times now and never made it into Buckingham Palace, I thought I would head into London. Took the train in (had to change in Reading) and then the tube to St. James Place (turns out Victoria would have been easier). When I got out of the station it was pouring rain!! Made my way to the palace (I had no map) and it turns out that tours are only run in August and September!! D'oh!
Then I recalled that there was an IMAX theatre over by the London Eye. Thankfully the London Eye is so high you can see it from anywhere. Made it easy to find. On the way there, I passed one of those discount ticket booths and thought about going to a show. I really want to see Stomp, but I decided that I was too tired. The show would have ended at 10PM and then it would have taken me almost two hours to get back to Newbury! Too late for my tired little body. So I went to see Space Station: 3D. Wow. Wow. It was awesome!! Great photography (duh) and the space station is so cool. Well worth seeing.
After that the jet lag caught up with me and I headed back to Newbury. A quick dinner at Cafe Uno and off to my hotel room for an early evening.
More later.
