Updating The New Yellow House ⇒

December 14th, 2008 by

As expected Christine and I began talking about what we renovations and changes we want to do first. In the beginning it was quite overwhelming as we want to replace/modify just about everything in every room. However, we have come up with what we think is a reasonable plan.

First is something we knew we wanted to do even before we moved in, hardwood floors in the dining room and hallway. We are completely fed up with stained carpets. Initially we were going to do hardwood, but after talking with several people (our neighbour the builder, our interior designer, a friend of mine who has reno'ed 6 houses), we are going with engineered flooring. I hope to have it picked out within the next few weeks and have the installation planned and completed in January.

Second, are a few windows that we have discovered are quite drafty. One is in the girls' room and the other, unfortunately (it is quite large and therefore will be quite expensive) is the living room window. As both of these windows face the road, we are going to try to get windows that filter out sound.

Third is something I really, really don't want to replace, but we must, as the deck is not safe. When we do it, we are going to consider expanding the deck around the house (so we can get onto it from the dining room) and providing some cover (so I don't get wet when I BBQ). We are hoping our neighbour, a builder, will give us a good rate to build it.

After that our list of things we want is loooong.
