A Ya Ya ⇒

Daniella, or, as I call her, my Ya Ya, is now 8 weeks old. I have neglected to post on our blog with her progress but it won't be fair to her to say when she' s older that I just didn't have the time so for now the dishes can wait.

First I will explain the nick name. Elise's word for "the other one" is A ya ya. When you put one shoe on her, she sticks her other foot in the air and says "a ya ya?" So, Elise is one girl and Daniella is "a ya ya".

We left the care of our midwives a week ago. I was quite sad about it as this will be our last baby and it just marks the end of that whole pregnancy, newborn thing for me. DeeDee weighed in at 4850 g (10 pounds 11 ounces--three pounds more than birth). She was 58 cm long (52.5 cm at birth). Deb joked that she added 2 inches for her hair. She was cooing and smiling the whole time at Deb who said "if only all babies were this easy". I can't believe we got this lucky twice.

She is sleeping through the night and has been for a couple of weeks now. By that I mean sleeping in a six hour stretch at night. To achieve this I have to cluster feed her all evening which is a bit tiring for me but I'll pay that price for a 6-8 hour stretch at night. I feel quite well rested. She is also eating very well.

She sleeps a lot during the day which is helpful for me. She is staying awake for longer stretches and is generally smiley and playful during those times. She likes to hang out on her change table. She likes to be held but doesn't like to be too warm so she tends to stretch away from the person holding her. It makes it hard to find a comfortable position to hold her in but as soon as you are most uncomfortable holding her, she falls asleep.

She is a very gassy baby. Elise was "La fontaine Elise" with all her spitting up but Daniella is, to quote Erin, 20 pounds of stink in a 10 pound package. I can't believe she can smell that bad when all she eats is breastmilk. So I'm off dairy and giving her a probiotic to try to help matters. I think more research will be needed.

This week she will go for her 2 month vaccines. I'm not looking forward to it.

We had a welcome party for her on Saturday. She got some lovely gifts and everyone loved her and her hair (the smelly farts were another matter but it can't be helped, poor thing.
