Travelling with the wee fiend ⇒
I know many of you thought we were crazy to go travelling all the way to France with a 7 month old. I too had my doubts about that decision. We always said that if worst came to worst, we would turn around and come right home.
I am really happy to say that Elise is turning into a veteran traveller. The keys for us are:
- time the driving around her nap time
- once we take her out of the car, we have to keep her out for a while, as she doesn't like getting in and out
- don't spend too much time in the car
- make sure the evenings are low key so she doesn't get all wired up
We have learned that it takes her about 3 days to get used to a new place, so we have to stay in once place for at least that long or else we have an unhappy baby. This is the reason we decided to stay in Porto Vecchio instead of going to Ajaccio. We also discovered that she really needs her own space for sleeping...the few times we have had her in bed with us, none of us have slept particularly well.
The French have really great baby food like meats, biscuits, all different kinds of vegetables and so far Elise likes them all except the peas. And really, who can blame her?
Fighting the cold has been hard on her when combined with all the travel, but all in all she has pulled through like a trooper. I know adults that don't travel as well as her!
So all you parents that are scared of travelling with your child, don't be!
