I Guess They Don’t Want My Money ⇒
I went shopping yesterday for a gift and I encountered such bad service that I actually complained about it! Usually I just leave a store when I receive bad service, but this time I was just so mad I left the store then went back in to bitch.
I walk into the Brick just after lunch and I don't see anyone there. I do find someone however on my way to the side of the store; a sales person sitting on one of the vibrating couches! I continue through the store, making obvious, "I am looking for something and I don't see it" motions. Then I find the other sales person, surfing the web on a computer by the appliances.
I continue to walk around looking lost, but neither of them do anything. Not even a "hello". On my way back I now find both of them sitting on the couches talking. Grrrrrrr....now I am really mad. I leave the store but go back in and go up to them (still sitting on the counches) and say, "The service in this store is atrocious. One of you is sitting on the vibrating couch and the other is surfing the web. Neither of even acknowledged my presence."
The gentleman now asks me, "What are you looking for?" Too little, too late buddy.
As I turn to head out the door I retort, "Nothing now, thanks for nothing"
Is it just me or should there be better service in a place where the average purchase must be near $1000? I don't need someone following me around, but to me good service is: * greeting me at the door, or at least acknowledging my presence * letting me know they are there if I need anything or asking if they can direct me * if I look lost or puzzled, offer to help
Let's contrast that with with an American-based big box electronics store. Not a place you'd expect good service, right?
Well after work I caved and went to the new Best Buy in Richmond. I was expecting Future Shop-like service and I was pleasantly surprised! Who'd a thunk? When I went in, all I could see were blue-shirted staff members. I walked around trying to find what I was looking for. As I couldn't see it, I stopped one of them and asked if they might be able to help me. He said, and I quote, "Actually I am helping someone else, would you mind if found someone else to help you?" He then introduced himself to me and asked me name and found someone else to help me.
After I found what I was looking for I was heading back to front to pay for it, when yet another staff member says, "There is a big line up there, I can help you here if you like." Wow.
I left Best Buy actually considering shopping there again!!!!
