2 weeks in ⇒

At last a couple of minutes to sit and write an entry. Elise is 2 weeks old today--I can't believe I was pregnant just two weeks ago. So far we are doing great. Elise is a very good and easy baby. She eats very well and we have figured out how to keep her food down (ever seen milk come out a baby's nose and mouth at the same time? Le Fontaine elise!). She just eats so fast she's done in about 10 minutes. I have to make her stop to burp after 3 minutes then she keeps it all in her tummy where it belongs. All the books say to try to keep them eating for 20 minutes then switch sides! If I did that, I fear she would explode and the milk might come out her ears and God knows where else as well.

Our midwife Ren came for a visit last week to weigh her. Her weight pattern went as follows: born Tuesday at 7 lbs 9 oz, Friday 7 lbs 6 oz (only 3 oz weight loss) Tuesday 8 lbs 3 oz. Our 10 minutes total eating seems to be working fine.

The quick eating thing works well for me sleeping as well. We're only up for about half hour tops including diaper changes when necessary. She wakes up every 3 hours or so and is sleeping soundly in her bassinet beside our bed (mum is too lazy to get up and go into Elise's room!). She rarely cries when she wakes up at night - I usually just hear her sucking her hands and smacking her lips.

I am also healing well. I have a bruised tailbone which is healing more slowly than the rest of me. Otherwise, my body seems to be bouncing back well. I have had excellent post partem care with Ren and I really just can't say enough about Ren and Leanne at the Midwifery Group.
