It can’t KEEP hitting the snooze button can it? ⇒

Well, here we are with one day to go until our due date. No sign of any baby action yet except that the bump has FINALLY dropped. Normally they drop about 2 weeks prior but ours, like its mum in the morning, is finding it just too cozy to contemplate coming out.

My midwives had a couple of theories: 1. There is plenty of room in my pelvis so the baby just sort of bobs in to take a look and then comes back out again thinking "yup...plenty of room and I know where I'm going so I'm going to hang out up here where there is more room" 2. My hip, back and pelvis pain that I've had for the last few months is a symptom that my pelvis is misaligned so there isn't a clear path for the baby (this may explain the strange burrowing sensation I've been having - not at all comfortable and I hope the bump isn't hurting its head in the process!)

So off to a chiroprator who specializes in pre-natal care (but also treats regular chiropractic clients), Dr. Stephanie Bonn. Of course my pelvis WAS misaligned (hmmm...still not sure about chiropractors who can always find something out of whack to fix) she did an adjustment and lo and behold the baby is now engaged. OK, maybe, just maybe she fixed me. In any case, Stephanie is really nice and very smiley so if you need a chiroprator, she's at Yaletown Chiropractic (call her after November...she's going on mat leave today for a couple of months)

My midwives have started recommending things for me to do to get my body thinking about kicking the bump out of bed - all of which don't technically induce labour but should encourage my body to start producing the correct hormones (prostaglandin and oxytosin). One is red raspberry leaf tea which I am calling prostaglandin tea. She also tried a "procedure" which I won't go into details on but it didn't go too well because part of my anatomy was being stubborn.

Trivia tidbit: the reason the "they" tell couples to have sex to induce labour is because semen is loaded with prostaglandin - who knew?!

The good thing in all this is that I am definitely next. The four other couples we know who were expecting babies around the same time as me have all delivered so that just leaves little ol' me (it's not FAIR!!). It can't keep hitting the snooze - it has to come out some time.
