Ultrasound Results ⇒

My midwife Leanne called me today to tell me about our ultrasound results. Practically everything looks normal. The baby is growing at the right pace and has two arms, legs, hands feet. There were just a couple of small things: I have a low-lying placenta which will likely correct itself and the baby has a choroid plexus cyst which is apparently a variant of normal. This is a cyst on part of the baby's brain but it doesn't cause any brain damage or anything. The only scary thing is that it is a soft marker for a chromosomal defect called Trisomy 18 if it is found with other markers. But since it only has one cyst and no other markers, it isn't likely anything is wrong with the baby. Still, it made me a little nervous that the results weren't 100% perfect.

As for the placenta thing, 90% of the time it will grow away from the cervix and therefore will not cause any problems. If it doesn't, I may end up on bed rest and worse case scenario have a c-section. I don't care as long as the baby gets out ok. I have another ultrasound at 32 weeks to make sure it has moved.
