Feeling richer and smarter ⇒
Am I the only one who feels smarter when I enter a library? Whenever I go in the central library I feel like I am learning by osmosis.
Why was I there? Well, I was trying to make $500. When I bought my TV in October, AVU let me know about their AdCheque program. This program is supposed to send you a cheque if the item you bought is advertised for less than you paid, within 30 days of purchase. Approximately 25 days after I bought the TV, I found it listed for ~$500 less at FutureShop. I diligently cut the couple out and brought it in to the guy who sold me the TV. He took the ad and all the relevant info and told me he would send it in to head office and that I should expect a cheque in 6-8 weeks.
Predictably 9 weeks go by and no cheque. I tried to email the sales guy, but it turns out he is no longer there. So I phone them and explain the situation to Ian. He eventually determines that head office has no record of the ad and they can't do anything. Sheesh.
So, I head into the library to find the ad again. It only took me about 5 minutes to find the ad in the microfiche. I have copied the ad and I will be calling AVU tomorrow. I don't how it will work out as the AdCheque program states that it won't work if the ad is time limited, which the ad was. Hopefully they will send me a cheque...we will see.
As an aside, why were the back issues of the Vancouver Sun on microfiche and not online? Surely the paper is laid out and printed digitally. Why can't they be stored digitally?
