I don’t get it ⇒

I read another book from my list. This time it was Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I have to say, I really didn't get it. I was about this young kind, Holden Caufield, and how messed up he was. He couldn't really have a normal relationship with anyone.

I don't quite understand why it was on "The List". Can any of you explain it to me?
