It’s about frickin’ time! ⇒

This day has been a long time coming! I finally (finally!!) got a new job!!! Just not the one I thought it would be! Some of you may be aware that I have been chasing a Sales Engineer job at [Make Technologies][307]. I had been in to meet everyone, the HR guy, the CEO, the CTO, the VP Sales and the Regional Manager. On Sept. 4th, they informed me that they had decided to hire a more senior SE. Fine, they didn't want me. Then later that day they phoned me back and asked me if I could come in and do a presentation to the Regional Sales Manager! WTF?! So on the Monday before we left (for Peru) I went in to do the presentation. I felt that it went very well. Apparently, it was between me and another guy with more sales experience (not again!). This time however, they decided they liked me and made me a verbal offer!! Woo hoo!! More to follow.

About a week before all of this, my friend Calvin over at Verb Exchange got me an interview for an inside sales position. I met with the VP of Sales briefly and the Channel Manager. I thought the interview went well but I didn't really expect much from this as I didn't have any direct sales experience. But lo and behold, the day before I leave for Peru I get a verbal job offer from them as well!!

So now I am in the great position of having two job offers to consider. I don't, however, have any formal offers from either of them. They are both aware of my vacation plans and we discuss the next steps. Verb says they will have an official offer to me by the 15th, and they need a response by the 22nd and Make says that they will have an offer to me before the 22nd so that I can review both offers. All this time, I want to give notice at Epic, but I can't until I get a formal offer that I am going to accept. Sure enough my offer from Verb arrives on the 15th. But nothing from Make at all. I figure that they are just going to wait until I get back to handle all the details. But still, they did say they would have an offer to me.

On the 26th (the offer got extended), I reject the Verb offer (for a variety of reasons). Still nothing from Make. My plan now is to go into work on Monday, call Make, get the offer and give my letter of resignation to Epic. The first two steps go really well. When I get a hold of the HR guy, I find out that he no longer works at Make! It turns out that my hiring was dependant on Make getting some funding, which of course, they didn't get! Shit! Double Shit! What a blow! They did say when they got funding they would give me a call. I don't think I have been that sad/depressed/upset in a long time. Life sucked for a brief time. But...

Later in the day I find out that there is a new initiative at Epic and my name has been tossed around. Hope, glorious hope!! On Wednesday I find out that new position is as Business Analyst. A sales-based, customer facing position!! Woo hoo!! And then I find out they want me for that position!!

And today all the paperwork was finalized. As of Monday, I am Epic Data's newest Business Analyst!! Comes with a raise, commission and a foot into the sales door!! No more coding for me!!! Over the next 2 weeks I will move myself from my developing role to my sales roles. I go to a trade show in Philadelphia on Oct. 21st!

Ya me!!
