My EV - One Year In ⇒

We've owned our Nissan Leaf for almost a full year, and it is, without a doubt, the best car I've ever owned (note, I've only owned 5 cars and this is the first truly new car). Note we "only" got the old $5k provincial credit, not the new, additional $5k federal one nor the $6k Scrap It one.

It now has 25K kms on it. If that had been my previous car (a 2005 Kia Spectra), it would have cost ~$3,500 on gas (~9.4L/100K @ $1.5/L) and ~$3000 in maintenance.

Instead it's cost ~$700...

Some background on EV charging; there are 3 types of chargers, Levels 1-3. Level 1 is a trickle charge, like you'd get if you plugged the car into a standard 110V outlet. It takes ~30 hours to charge our car from one of these. Level 2 is a 240V outlet, like an oven or a dryer. This is what we have at home and it takes 9-10 hours to charge Leaf fully (from empty). Then there are Level 3 chargers. They charge the Leaf to 80% in only 30 mins. These are the types of chargers you want to use...
