Match Day

Elise has a very specific sense of fashion: to take the first items from each drawer and put them on. I’ve been trying to guide her, just a little, into wearing things that look a little nicer together but also believe she should be able to choose her own clothes so I’ll say things like [...]

Party in Fairy Tale Village

Guests arriving at Elise’s 6th birthday party were greeted with a sign that said “Fee Fi Fo Farty. Welcome to Elise’s Party” They were asked to eat a magic bean (pink and blue Jelly Belly’s) and come on in where they were to climb the beanstalk to the top of our stairs. We had tied [...]

Finally, I have servants!

This morning the girls offered to be my servants for the day, so I didn’t have to “do anything”. First up was breakfast. Nella took the order and Elise was the chef. I had toast and jam, then a bowl of cereal then an apple. Next up was planning the meal for the day and [...]

Swimming—-at last!

Oh it has been a wonderful week. As you all know, Elise has her “little” anxieties. One of these has historically been a wariness of the water. This time last year, I took her to Sunnyside Pool and it took 45 minutes to get her in the water. When I finally did, she clung to [...]

Technology & Education

Since we have decided to home school our children, I have become very interested in how people learn and how I can help my kids learn. Being a techno-geek, I of course, am looking into how technology can be used effectively. Our kids love the iPad (and iPhone) and when they are using it, it [...]

When Should We Introduce Social Media to Kids?

Re: the topic here: http://db.tidbits.com/article/11633 I think it’s pretty simple actually. Supervise them until you feel they can handle what they encounter. Make sure they feel comfortable coming to you with questions about it. Don’t over protect, 99% of their interactions will be harmless. Did I miss any?

Home Schooling

I couldn’t have said this better, and this is why we want to home school children: http://unweary.com/2010/09/whats-wrong-with-schooling.html.

Five

So here it is. September 12. 5 years ago, I remember thinking “I can’t believe she is a week old already.” Huh. You blink and a week has gone by. Blink again and it’s been five years. I’m writing this post at 11:30 p.m. I can’t sleep. I need to sleep because we have to [...]
