The Dalzells in Disneyland

We have just returned from the long anticipated trip to Disneyland and San Diego. What a time we had and I can’t wait to go there again when the girls are older. It was lovely seeing Disneyland through their eyes and I hope it was not as much of a blur to them as it [...]

Swimming—-at last!

Oh it has been a wonderful week. As you all know, Elise has her “little” anxieties. One of these has historically been a wariness of the water. This time last year, I took her to Sunnyside Pool and it took 45 minutes to get her in the water. When I finally did, she clung to [...]

My first sonnet

Sonnet I To a Preschool Teacher Let us not to the preschool day Admit a bound’ry. Art is not Art which declares that a cat cannot be pink, Nor that flowers do not grow on clouds. O no! It is the place where little hands Are free to squish, to splash, to make great messes. [...]

To Clean or Not to Clean

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I am so overwhelmed by the mess in my house. I keep trying to remind myself that it looks like this because I choose to play with my kids instead of cleaning. I know that one day down the not so distant road when Elise and [...]

Technology & Education

Since we have decided to home school our children, I have become very interested in how people learn and how I can help my kids learn. Being a techno-geek, I of course, am looking into how technology can be used effectively. Our kids love the iPad (and iPhone) and when they are using it, it [...]

The case of the mysterious underpants

Once is explainable. Twice is a little odd. But THREE times? How could three children leave their underwear at my house? It just appears in my clean laundry.

Doing things the hard way

I have been reading up a lot on health and how to maintain a health lifestyle. There is lots of interesting research out there, including and article that showed that it didn’t matter much if people exercised if they sat most of the day (in the office, in the car, etc). Back in the Good [...]

When Should We Introduce Social Media to Kids?

Re: the topic here: http://db.tidbits.com/article/11633 I think it’s pretty simple actually. Supervise them until you feel they can handle what they encounter. Make sure they feel comfortable coming to you with questions about it. Don’t over protect, 99% of their interactions will be harmless. Did I miss any?
